rear squeeking

When you change to coilovers, or lowering springs, you should... loosen the bolts that locate the rear beam to the body! the rubber bushes are winding up, as the car gets lower! Loosening the bolts will allow the rubber bush to re set itself, then re tighten, this must be done with the wheels on the ground, a struggle to do on the ground, but a doddle on a 4 poster ramp... whether it squeaks or not, this should be done, before it rips the rubber bush to bits!

That little bit of info, should be in every section on this Forum where a beam axle is fitted to a GTI or other variant

No wonder the rear beam bushes only lasted 12 months

you'll have rear wheel steering. it will feel like you're going to die if you approach 30mph 

you'd need to constantly correct the auto-rear-wheel-steering of the car, whilst driving in straight lines. essentially you end up snaking down the road!

other than that, no noises, rattles or bangs, as the rubber was still there. It was just broken up into various chunks.
