Drop it like it's hot!
« on: 31 March 2005, 13:10 »
Couldn't resist the Snooooop pun.

Umming and Arring about spings and wheels. Seems like 17"s on the Mk3 GTi 8v don't run very well (anyone disagree with that??) So i think i'll just stick with the scabby OZ 15"s on there ATM. The car still lOOks like a Paris Dakar entry, so i want to lower it.

What's the best spring kit around? And how much to lower it - without ruining the ride. If 17"s are no good, then would the spring kit work with 16"s without rolling arches and faffing around??

Thanks for the advice.

Gaz,

I would'nt touch 17" wheels, the handling goes all wrong with them. I went back to 15" after about two weeks and sold my 17" Audi wheels. My car is lowered aboub 30mm all round and the arches have been roled.  I have just bought a set of 16" alloys and will try them.

I'll wait for a report on your 16"s then, to compare them.  I read somewhere else on here that 17"s were a pain in the ass, but above is the first positive comment for them. How much it cost you to roll the arches? Although i don't really want to go that route.

ECP quoted about £45 for lowering springs of 40mm, sounds good. I've recently noticed that the rear tyres have scuffs on, which i got on my Integrale from the arches. The last thing i want is it to be like that again, 5 door car but can only have 2 in the front!!   Could it be the shocks are soft/gone? They're 195/50/15.

Yeah, up some pics if you can, would be good to see. Do you get any scrapage? Are they alloys off another motor or new ones?
