Brake sticking on after new discs and pads
« on: 21 May 2011, 22:52 »
Replaced my rear discs and pads today. However the passenger side is sticking on slightly as when I come to a stop it is red hot and smells.

Also when I pull off I can feel that the brake on that side is not fully released.

The handbrake doesn't pull up as much as before. I put that down to the new pads being alot thicker than the old ones.

The plan for tomorrow is to remove the pads and wind the piston all the way back in and refit. I cannot remember if I wound it all the way in.

Anything else it may be ? Sticking caliper ?

As you said, wind the piston back in all the way.
Also make sure the pads can move freely.

Sorted... Wound the piston all the way in but it was one of the guide pins was stuck out too far not allowing the pads to release properly from the disc.

The guide pins do they just pull out as im getting brake squeal from the rear passenger side and I suspect the guide pin that was stuck out isn't moving as it should.

Change the pins, as they could be bent.

They just pull out, unhook the boot first.
Change the boots also if you are putting new ones on.
