Head gasket query???
« on: 20 May 2011, 21:42 »
Ok, last few days since i done the service on car, ive notcied some yelloy gunk around the oil cap. the old oil was black, new oil and filter and air filter now in. Its not been cold so not condensation etc.

So, i took apart the oil cap and unit, breather tubes etc, and the pipes that connect to throttle body (i think), and the insides were coated in yellow gunk, so cleaned them all out!!!! And refitted (tonight).

Now, part of me (and a friend) thinks the head gasket may have gone previously, and the parts just wernt cleaned. So ive now cleaned all parts and hopefully thats all it is.

1. Im NOT losing any water
2. Oil in sump and dipstick is fine and can see new oil is ok
3. Car NOT overheating at all and not losing power
4. Engine management light is on, and p0113 code, which is the INTAKE AIR TEMP CIRCUIT HIGH INPUT, which makes me think, is the engine not breathing well????

So my question is why would this gunk be there? if not already gone before i mean. any reasons?

These engines love to gunk up,  The oil breather systems will fill up with this gunk, its normal and can be ignored,  as for being on the oil cap, if it doesnt go away after a 100 miles or so of hot engine driving,  either there is water getting in there... not sure how you will have to investigate that,  or.. the breather system is so blocked up, its pushing back into the engine,  Clean it all up if thats the case and it should be ok.  I dont think its the head gasket if thats the only symptom as it is common to get this.
