Gearbox Compatibility
« on: 20 May 2011, 20:27 »
Hi all,
looking to replace the AUG gearbox on my 1.8gti as it has a really noisy bearing somewhere in it which only ceases with the clutch pedal down (replaced release bearing with no joy). I have toyed with the strip down option? But would like to think a wider selection of boxes would help in me being able to buy a good one. My question is am I able to fit another box with another code which is compatible. If so Is it a straight swap or are mods needed. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Any 020 box will fit, but be aware the Golf 3 and 16v (IIRC) have a larger  (so stronger) input shaft. If you get one of these boxes make sure you get the right clutch to go with it.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.
