The bits that are 'missing' are actually service tools.
My advice would be to take the head off as a matter of course, and inspect the damage.

Guys - You are sposed to be putting my mind at rest!!! comments like "Nah thats an easy fix mate" or "Even my dead gran could fix that, its that easy"   im fairly a Noob, so what does this sort of problem cause the engine?

I've spent soooooo much cash on this beast in the last few months, probably bout £1500 and i'll be gutted if this finishes me off

Anyone feel sorry enough for me to give me a 2.0 16V from a Mk3 - Am i correct in thinking this is an easy swap?

worst case senario is its knackered but like 6 said it really needs to be inspected before the full extent of the damage is known cant give you a straight answer im afraid, normally when cam belts come off it wrecks the valves and pistons by bending them in your case if the belt didnt come off and assuming it didnt slip theses are big if's then its still the fact the wheel is sheered off and is probably a difficult job to repair in itself

 sorry mate but at 70 mph it WILL have bent most if not all the valves and possbily damaged or cracked a piston or 2......... if the tensioner bolt has sheered off you will probably have to remove the engine to try and drill it out and re-tap the thread out,l;ike yo said it's gona be costly if you re-build it.................me personaly i would just put another lump in it and save loads of grief

yeah looks as if its bitten the dust! ive got a few options
1. Break it apart and get what i can
2. Stick a new Engine in bearing in mind that is gunna cost alot
3. Keep the car as a project
4. Sell it as it is

I really do not know what to do.  Just out of interest how much you reckon i could get for a DTML Weber (think thats the right 1) its basiclly new on as of 3 months.  Any guesses?

look at it this way the engine is gonna come out to be inspected and fixed go down to the scappy and get another engine for it! £150ish for an 8v engine take about half a day to fit and if your feeling lucky take your old engine and slowly build it back up with a few mods along the way

wacked up on scuby snacks!
