After some knowledge...
« on: 18 May 2011, 03:44 »
Hey guys just after some tech advise..

ive got a 3" tbe with stage 2 map... yup ive only had the car a week.. 150miles :P

but i dunno if i like the sound of it now? maybe i'm getting old? i'd just prefer the engine noise etc..

but because the remap sorta requires the turbo back.. how would i go about getting back a stockish sound from the exhaust without effecting the mapping and performance?

maybe i'm been fussy? but any advise would be appreciated...

thanks

What make exhaust is it? If it's a Milltek non resonated you could get a resonated one to quieten it.
If not then I have no idea other than buying a quieter exhaust.
I can't see any point in going beyond stage 1 on a road car unless you're going to do track days. If you do track days you have to make compromises as every mod you make needs another mod in another area to restore the famous GTI balance of components.
I hope you're running big brakes if you've gone stage 2.

How about just getting an R and going stage 1. 300bhp and quiet as you like, decent traction and decent brakes.

The exhaust is a Milltek full system,
Car is spot on tbh, I was thinking if maybe swapping the GT100mm tips to the smaller ones will make it a tad quieter? I've driven it a bit today and its not too bad, might have just been the difference from stock that needs getting used too.

^ as neil said. They are known to take a little while and the sound should change slightly in time.

Ok ill, live with it for a bit and see how I get on with it, one other thing is that the right tailpipe is slightly lower than the other, one the left uses a black smaller rubber hanger which might be standard and the left a longer red one, reason its longer is because the left metal hanger that goes into the rubber is connected to the exhaust further back. I forgot to look but is the trim adjustable up and down so I can move it so its even with the other? I'm talking maybe 2cm at most lower than the other and there's no movement in the rubbers they are all connected properly etc..

The tail trims do come off, they are bolted on so you can change them to Black or chrome, but the only adjustment you will get from them is in and out or turn around, to lift it at one side or lower the other side the full back box section will need to be slackened off and twisted accordingly then retightened up, easy job if its on the ramps, a decent garage wouldnt charge much to do this

a pic of mine

They do look bigger in the flesh
