How to fit a new starter motor?

Is there a how to guide of how to fit a new starter motor for a 8v gti on here? Also My cars engine code 2e so can u use another 8v starter motor?

any 8v should fit as they are all 020 gearbox. It's held on from memory by 1 bolt on the gearbox and 1 bolt on the front engine bracket, so you will need to support the weight of the engine with a jack or something. Once its undone it just pulls out and new one slots back in

Discnnect the battery as well before disconnecting the wires

Did mine last friday. All in all, 4 bolts to remove. Dan is right that you will have to support the engine/gearbox with a jack. All bar 1 bolt can be reached from above. Actually a very straight forward job, just disconnect the battery neg and nothing will go wrong.  :wink: :smiley:
