Juddering at half throttle
« on: 16 May 2011, 15:42 »
Hi all,

just come back to Mk2 ownership having bought my mate's 1990 8v GTi.  It's a great car with 160k on it and pulls really well, but it has a disturbing juddering at about 60-70mph on half throttle.  Floor it and it will clear, drop the throttle and it clears, but there are a few worrying moments in between!  A 145 mile journey failed to clear the problem but it ran really sweetly otherwise.  Any ideas, chaps?  from reading other posts, I'm thinking a timing/fuelling issue unless anyone else knows better!

thankyou all.

i have the same problem too.

Mine is a 1900 8v and ive had the juddering in 5th gear for a while now. As soon as you boot it the problem goes away......

I ve been told recently it may be a fueling issue but im unsure about that.

Anyone got any ideas??

Spoken to my friend who owned the car before me, he changed the oil every 3000 miles but last tuned it about 2 years ago.  It was standing for a couple of months before I got it but was started up on occasions.  Been driving it today and the juddering is getting worse, and it's also been tricky to start when warm this afternoon.

Has anyone heard of digi-lag, by the way?

so service it then...plugs, plug leads, cap, rotor arm. oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter.

I'd do the cam belt too if you don't know the last 2 years worth of history!

BTW Digi lag is the last thing you should be thinking about if you don't know when the last service was!

Found the problem ecu was blown we put a second hand one in and it blew that too, turns out it was the fusebox causing it to blow the connections were a mess. I replaced it and tried my mates golf ecu and its fixed.

Could be the the same problem uve got.
