I named him Wolfgang as the first music I heard in the car was by the great man himself. It was his Symphony no 40.
German and Austrian Classical music are incomparable. At present I'm into Anton Bruckner. Symphonies 4, 7, 9.

  • ..gotta feel for my automobile..
I named mine after the Wolfsburg visit and the little VW wolf I now have dangling from my mirror.

And yes, we do actually use the name - everyday.

Sad.

But true.

The last one was called GolfTi........
Mk7 GTI. DBP, DCC, Winter pack. Mine since new, July 2013.
GTI no. 4. Golf no. 5.  VW no. 7.

The worst thing i have done to the GTI is
Only last week i got the low engine mount replaced with a Vwracing one to stiffen things up a bit,
Causes so much vibration at idle that it is coming off this week and having the insert version fitted instead to see if that causes less, it is a good mod to do if you have got the extra power, stops wheel hop completely and much more responsive when setting off, just cant live with the vibration at idle

Neil, at least now you can pinpoint all the rattles, eradicate them and when your car idles smoothly, it will be super.

That vibration would drive me insane.

Well, if I'm going to have to drag myself into this thread it'll have to involve wheels I guess.
There are two that immediately spring to mind:
Not getting Monza Shadows: the first stupid act was the silly idea that I'd get the cheapest GTI in the country. I like to set myself challenges when I want to buy stuff and that was my criteria for buying the mk6, as I don't keep my cars long (normally), to minimize depreciation whilst knowing most of the things I wanted can easily be retro fitted.
So after a few months of searching and fruitless negotiations I happened accross this silver basic spec GTI with 17'' alloys. Fine I thought, I've got my beloved BBS 18''ers on the mk5 with decent rubber, I'll chuck them on the car and all will be well.
Wrong! They looked a bit plain on the mk6 despite looking sublime on the mk5. If I'd have just got one with Shadows as I'd originally wanted I'd have saved myself a year and a half of swapping wheels about (probably) and just kept the Shadows with a set of 10mm spacers on the arse end.

Next up: As documented already on here, finally I managed to get hold of the elusive BBS CKs I'd been wanting for ages and ages and ages. I fitted them in January, against my better judgement, as I couldn't wait to get them on the car. I then went away on a road trip in February and managed to kerb two of the wheels after having had them on the car for possibly less than 200 miles. Aaaaagh! That set me back the cost of refurbishing two and a full set of new (second hand) wider tyres.

I have already posted 4 stupid things, so I might as well go the whole hog.

If I'd initially ordered the car with the RCD510 + Dynaudio, I could have saved a packet by retro-fitting the RNS510 (which would still sound sh!t on its own) and would only have needed a sub-woofer to get the sound to be acceptable. Whether it would sound as good, better or worse than what I ended up with, I would not know. Where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise.

But no, I thought otherwise and I ended up spending a packet to nearly get the sound I wanted by having to purchase a separate power amplifier, the manditory sub-woofer and the retro-fit RNS510. I could have sold the RCD510 and be quids-in, sort off.

What really still p!sses me off big time is that the fugly RCD310 when attached to this system sounds bloody sublime.

Never judge a book by its cover.
