Top mounts
« on: 14 May 2011, 20:59 »
Just wondered if anyone can help.

Fitted some Jamex coilovers to my gti a while ago and noticed that when on the ground the top mounts are quite high from the turret due to sitting on the nut on the top of the coilover, and then when raised it obviously drops down but if you pull the top of the wheel you can see the top mount moves in the turret.

Has anyone had this??

could be worn mounts, did you replace the mounts and bearings when fitting coilies? its kind of a must if not

no just fitted the originals, but as i say its the way the mounts sit on the nuts on the top on the coilover, surely when hard cornering this would result in the mount being able to move instead of being tight in the turret

you should have shock and spring together held by a top plate held down by a nut tightened, then the bearing goes on, top mount over the top of that, then place in turret, tighten in bay with last nut, this should allow for the mount not to move, i drop the car down and re tighten the top nut up as the weight of the car helps, if you have movement still your mounts are worn
