Nearly took a match to it.
« on: 13 May 2011, 23:03 »
been having problems with what indicated to be a driveshaft, thought was inner CV.

stayed at workshop after work and set about finding out.

Driveshaft nut off wheel end, bolts out other, wishbone bolts out, driveshaft off, lovely..

Checked CV and gave it a wiggle, fine..   :undecided:

While this was off and i was confused, thought id tackle front ARB and change from TT to Eibach 25mm.

Unbolt 4 subframe bolts, undo 4 steering rack bolts, subframe drops on head, great

TT ARB out, eibach on and try to lift frame up, and realize you cant bolt frame up with ARB attached on your own.

Unbolt ARB, but leave in position to bolt up later. After an hour of wrestling with subframe, eventually jack it up into position and get 4 sub frame bolts in - almost had enough by now..

Next steering rack bolts, and ..... no, not lined up, not going anywhere, another 20 mins of trying to make fit... no.

Getting late, no light and seriously had enough, i decide to just bolt driveshaft back in, attach wishbone, put wheel on and roll into workshop completely for the night until tomorrow.

Attaching wishbone a nightmare as steering rack not right, wheels dont point in right position for same reason.

Takes 15mins to get wheel on as 5mm spacers and screw to hold disk broken.

Thats enough for tonight so wheel it in, notice ignition is flicking,    Go to lock car, now the alarm goes, 10pm at night near to someones house, not cool. Open bonnet to remove negative lead from battery and remember that doesnt stop alarm. Alarm goes off further 4 times as im shutting bonnet, shutting doors, trying to lock again.

As we speak its inside, bonnet open, doors unlocked, driveshaft half bolted on (still not knowing the original problem is), steering rack not bolted on, wishbones have 1 bolt in each, ARB not in mounts (polybushed, how f**king hard do they wanna make it to do them up!  ) and what i imagine a flat battery to cause the ignition problems.

Completely fed up and was seriously thinking of throwing fag butt down petrol flap and saying have that you b**tard.

well turned out it wasnt driveshaft related atall we dont think, the possible reason that tyre felt flat when turning right/accelerating in straight line was..... Engine mount, drivers side!

1 bolt sheared off, 1 bolt loose as hell! Dealers had no replacements in so ordered for tuesday. Sure this will fix it tho!

Moral of the story, they say only use stretch bolts once, dont think you can get away with it lol
