Just had a REVO free trial put on
« on: 13 May 2011, 19:12 »
On my 2001 1.8T, and I have to say I am pretty impressed.
Reason is they are a mile up the road where as RTECH are over 100 miles away. Also I know them and will get it cheap
I sorted the few problems I had with the breathers (now all silicone) changed the turbo Diverter vv for one off a 911 turbo, put on a new temp sender, thermostat, Pipercross air filter, fuel and oil filter, plugs, and Valvoline fully synthetic aswell as all 4 new discs and pads, and its going great.

I had a local lad who was actually going to write his own map for it, but he is waiting for software, where as this REVO one was available straight away so i thought I would give it a go.

It easily looses traction now where as it never before, the mid range performance is a lot better while the MPG is identical with normal driving.
Got to say it doesnt feel as fast as the Fabia VRS I had remapped by angel tuning, but that had masses more torque being a diesel, but a very small usable powerband.
They said the proper map will be slightly better as its tweeked to the car, this is just a generic free map.

Your a braver man than me. Make sure this "local lad" knows what he is doing.

Yeh, he has a history of tuning race cars in Hungary, and i was going to let him have a go on mine, however it means him spending about £5k to get the right equipment, and as you say people are worried by small garages tweeking with ECUs, and rightly so. So its probably not worth the outlay for him.
Looks like I am going down the Revo route as angel tuning say an extra 40bhp, they dont differentiate between the 2 types of 150 1.8Ts available, and that worries me a bit.
this Revo map is supposed to be 209BHP. I doubt its that much.

Revo have a history of exaggerating their remap claims. They said (Im not sure if they have changed it now) that a MK5 would get 260 with a remap . . . yeah right.

Non the less it will still transform the car, you'll love it :D

Not quiet sure how REVO will "tweek" the map as they just load it on anyway, there's no "custom tuning" involved.  Even tho you email your original map to them, surely all engine code maps are the same out of the factory so there will be no difference.  The only difference you will get is if they map around problems that you already have, which is never a good route to go down.

But that said, REVO have got a very good reputation so you should have no problems there.

As for the Hungarian tuning wizard, i'd steer clear!

I did read that the free trial is only 80% so it may be slightly different with the full shebang!

Hope all goes well!

Well i drove it to work today (20 mile each way) and it was addictive.
looks like ill have the proper one done next week.
I can opt to have a switch remote that i can have different settings on, so for instance a super unleaded map, which is where they get the 209bhp claim from, a map for unleaded, a normal standard map, and even a "valet" map which turns it down below standard to stop anyone ragging it in a service.
This feature also has an immobiliser, so even if someone stole the keys the car wont start. Really clever stuff.

its a  mate of mine does the revo maps, and said it would be better than the free map as its tweeked on the car. He asked if i wanted it tuned for Super or normal unleaded. the free one is just a generic map.

:laugh:The Hungarian Wizard (love that) still doesnt have the gear to do it, and couldnt read the ECU so was after the new equipment.
As you all say i am probably better with a reknown company like revo anyway, especially now ive tried it

Hi,
There is no emailing the map to Revo it is all on the laptop. You just choose your ECU from the list.
Its not a custom map but you are able to tweek Timing, boost and fuel. Its somwhere in between a custom and generic map. There is a scale of 1 to 9.
Your supposed to tweek and road test to enure there is no pinking. A custom map requires a rolling road.
At the end of the day,Revo have been around years, so I thought I would give them a go.

I had my gt tdi remapped by revo at gti international last year, to start with the map seemed good but i then became aware of how much turbo spike the map had. It was either all or nothing when driving the car, I turned the map off in the end as it actually made the car harder to drive low down in the revs. My friend also had his mk5 gti remapped by revo and as said they claim it has taken it to 260bhp, but my 225bhp leon cupra r isnt far behind his golf so that figure is aload of bull. He Had it rolling roaded a few weeks back, with a panel filter and miltek sports cat and cat back system, it acheived around the 245 bhp mark which seems abit crap to me as a cupra r will remap to 250bhp standard providing everything is as it should be.
