When I declared my wheels, suspension and air filter in one go all I got charged was a £20 admin fee and an additional £4.54 to my premium making it £24.54! When I declared my exhaust it was when my policy was up for renewal anyway so I avoided the admin fee and paid about £10!

Some insurance companies class induction kits and exhausts as performance mods, and thus charge for them, whereas cosmetic mods are free.

Do you get charged for having coilovers?

with my insurance company, any mods that do not effect the bhp of the car are free, including air filter and exhaust! but any engine mods they will charge for!

I wasn't sure whether to declare a remap from 150 to 180bhp. So I got quotes for with and without, and somehow a specialist insurer beat the best quote I got off confused for a standard version by £100. Glad I did now!

Specialist modified insurers can get better quotes for modded cars. And ALWAYS declare mods, as otherwise you have effectively no insurance

Yeah I agree really, but i definitely wanted the comparison of a std spec premium. I might even have considered reversing the mod if the difference was too big.

Some quotes were ridiculous. One of £8k! and one that made me double take- and must've been an error - of £29k!!!
