kr oil pressure warning light :(
« on: 12 May 2011, 18:13 »
evening all,

right Ive finally got my kr engine in and started but the oil pressure light is flashing and when you pass 2k the buzzer come on so i take it both oil pressure sensors are not working :/ well im hoping it's the sensors! i can see fresh oil on the cams so i take it it's flowing ok.

i know one oil pressure sensor is right above the oil filter but what color wire should it have on it? and wheres the other oil sensor and what color wire should that one have on it? i have the pre 90s loom

cheers

Got the 2 oil pressure switches wrong. On the oil filter housing swap the two connectors round. (Yelloiw and blue i think the wire colours are)

Not necessarily, you need to know which wire (blue/yellow) goes to which sensor (white/black) I can't remember without looking!. You may have an issue if its not been run for a while. It could be that they are the wrong way round, but it is meant to flash below a certain rpm, and then buzz above it...

When i put my kr in. When ignition was on oil light wouldnt come on, then above 2k it buzzed. So i swapped the wires around on the sensors and it now works properly. But with out looking i couldnt tell you without looking. But sounds the same syptoms as mine

Would also be worth fitting a gauge so you can test the pressure as well.

Yeah once you find out which one goes on which, if they are on the right ones, and they're still going off,get a gauge on it to see what's happening. Like matey says they could just be the wrong way round though. Search for it, I'm sure rj wouldve mentioned it a million times by now!!

Thanks for all your help :) what sort of gauge would I be looking for? Is the a special one for the job? And would I connect the gauge where the sensor would go? Cheers

Yeah believe it or not its an 'oil pressure gauge'! All garages should have one, ask to use it for 5mins, or ask them to do the test with you there to make a note of results.. Yes you put it where the sensors are (either one) so you can see what pressures you've got there. You can also test at the back of the head where the oil temp sensor goes in, to see how much of a drop you have between positions. search on here for the pressures you should see at certain temps, revs, and positions..

Ok thanks lol right I got hold of one today and I screwed it in where the sensor would of been directly above the oil filter. From cold start I got about 80psi On idle. Is that right? Seems a little high.
