Moving battery - which cable to use?
«

Need to move my battery to get more space in the engine bay, not sure how its normally done but will probably fit some kind of junction box for the original cables and run 2 big cables to the new location. Is this how its normally done? What guage would I need to be safe?
Cheers

Only need one cable, t'other just ground very securely to the shell.
Go find a BMW or older Audi in a scrapyard - their batteries are in the boot/under the rear seat, so they have nice, long cables you can re-use.

cheers, I'll ge myself down the scrappy then
Or most likely onto ebay lol.
Will probably just move it to the other side of the engine bay as I seem to have everything on the passenger side and nothing on the drivers side, but maybe boot it if its not to much hassle

I would be tempted to move it to the boot.

As DH says a BMW 5 series cable would be ideal, its plenty long enough and is very large gauge. It should have a terminal block on the other end. This allows you to retain several +ve terminal pick-up points in the engine bay, plus there is a large 'knob' on top for jump starting.

OK, maybe a stupid question but if I get a 1x 0awg input and a 5x output, could it be used as a 5x input and 1x output? Also would I need to get any kind of fancy block or would any do as long as it was 0awg? and would I need a fused one? sorry I'm kinda an electrical noob

My battery cable comes into the bay and feeds this (with the big "+" sign on top)
NOTE: the thin red cable is not feeding the terminal block, it is an output!
The block has 2 primary outputs and 2 secondary outputs (which must be bridged from the primary outputs to become live)
Also under the big cap marked with the "+" logo, there's that big 'knob' i was talking about
