8v gti brake upgrade

hi im sure this has been covered so im sorry but im helping my mate with his 8v and he is ready for front disks and pads and i was wondering what is a good cheapish upgrade cheers

If it is 239mm then switching to the 256mm or 280mm set up is the best option
