Just a quickie!! Leon Cupra?!
« on: 10 May 2011, 09:00 »
My mates' Nissan Almeria Gti died on him, so I insured him on my second car and he is currently cruising round in my mapped 1.8T Golf, and absolutely loving it. So much so, that he is considering going VAG, which I personally think is a sensible decision, as I'm on my fourth Golf now!

Some of you on here might say "sell him your 1.8T" but I don't fancy it, as I'd have to sell at mates rates and then if there any issues with the car, it could get awkward. :undecided:

He is currently looking at 2002/2003 LCR's, which I know are more powerful than a (stage 1) mapped 1.8T golf, but what benefits are there, for him, to have a LCR over a Golf 1.8T (which he has been considering)?

Just want to be able to give him sone sound advice really, as the VAG scene is completely new to him! Any issues with the LCR? Cheers

They have sharper handling as standard out of the box due to uprated bushes and being sat lower too (I think)

Suffer pretty much the same problems as a MK4 because under the skin it is a Mk4

Remap a BAM engine LCR and you're looking at 250bhp +

Awesome cars! Pulls like a train and looks cool too. Think you get brembo's too?

Was going to get one in the future but the way fuel prices are going I don't think so

Tbh I am not finding the Octavia that bad on fuel, Leon would be lighter so should be better.

But at 260bhp you would have to use all of that power  driven sensibly they are okay I suppose...

Cheers for the input guys! What sort of price should he be looking at, bearing in mind all the extras it has over the golf?

If he gets a cupra R and not just a 1.8t cupra.. They are great different bumpers.. Brembo front brakes with 323mm discs.. Highly mappable and 250+ bhp is easy on a tuned stage one.. My Leon was better handling than the golf and sat slightly lower which was nice..

Down sides.. A lot of plastic on the inside and is not a pleasant place to sit if you drive a lot and long distances.. As said suffers a lot of the golf issues.. Main common fault is the hazard switch goes only £25 to replace but very annoying..

Also find your nearest dealer my nearest one was 45 mins away which was a pain lol

Hope this helps
Mk4 Golf GTI anniversary and mk6 golf tdi :)

i was gonna say exactly that, the dash and interior just doesnt feel as plush as a vw, in the same way that audi shows up vw (in my opinion) other than that they are awesome!

The interior looks the same as an Audi A3 (8L). I like it, but each to their own I suppose
