Hi folks...
I've recently been given a shot of an expensive cable that can enable VIM to the RNS510... with the option to buy it.
It simply plugs into the back of the RNS, and runs a wee program from my PC which sets the VIM speed from 6kph to 255kph so that it will never switch the video off when you're driving (unless you manage to top your car out!!).
It's a 5 minute job to do, and lasts through firmware updates... so only ever needs done once. It's simply a case of half removing the RNS from the dash, plugging the cable into the back, running the program, then shoving the RNS back into the dash!
The advantages are of this over a VIM dongle are:
It won't mess up your cars speed sensor on the CanBus like a VIM dongle
It won't mess up any bluetooth kits like a VIM dongle
You don't have to worry about extra wiring / boxes tucked in the back of the stereo
It costs MUCH less than a VIM dongle (Kufatec VIM £162)
I'm basically putting a 'feeler' out there to see if anyone is interested in getting this done. If I can get a few folk interested then it would be worth me buying the cable. If there is no interest, then its not worth me keeping it as I've already activated it on my car.
I'm in Aberdeen - and will do it for £45 - which will include a £5 donation to the forum charity. At the same time I can also use it to change your RNS510's DVD player to be region 0 (so it will play anything) and help out with any VagCom tweaks - as I have one of them too.
Alternatively you could send me your RNS510 in the post - and I can return it with the VIM enabled for an extra £15 for a registered/insured FedEx delivery anywhere in the UK.
Any questions... fire away!
Mods... if this is in the wrong section, then please move it to an appropriate one (but perhaps leave it for a few hours to get seen first
