Removing Dash Shine?

I just picked my car up from the body shop and the paint work is amazing.

Unfortunatly they have decided to hoover my car (thanks) and also spray some dash shine junk or something over the door cards and dash.

The dash and door cards are not supposed to be shiny in my car and more of a matt black and grey.

How do i remove this as at the moment it is really bloody annoying. You can clearly see swirls of where it has been wiped on the dash and there are bits that are missed and not shiny.

I want to remove it so it looks normall, without damaging it or scratching it.

You need something that would have a cutting effect as some of these gloss dash shines can be a right pain to get out, same as the shine stuff that goes onto plastics outside the car. For that I used to use tar remover but not sure that would be any good for the inside on the dash.

Try a degreaser or an all purpose cleaner.  Once you have removed the dressing (probably something like Back to Black), apply a product of your choosing.

What do you normally polish your dash with?

I'd say try window cleaner to remove the gloss and sticky shine.

Either Poorboys Natural look or Valet Pro Protectant. You will get bad reflections on the screen if the dash is too glossy.

just use some dilute APC or similar... something like megs APC or autosmart g101

they have probably used something like pazzazz or dash dandy on it.. contains a high amount of silicone

take heart.. the effect will only be temporary so all is not lost

I normally use the megs dash spray which doesnt leave a glossy shine. It simply cleans and keeps it looking its normal self.

I will try the above and get back to you.

At the end of the day its not the end of the world, and they have done an incredible paint job so i am not going to go shouting the odds and complain.

Im more annoyed they were incompetent enough to not apply it properly so some parts of the dash are patchy making it more noticeable!

getting dash 'shine' right is a tricksy old affair and they probably wanted to make your car all nice for you so their hearts were in the right place.

make sure you let your new paintwork cure before you go applying waxes etc

Yup, i will do. I did have me old golf painted a few years back if you remember? Will give i a week then apply a nice wax onto it. I am a bit OCD on car cleaning on the side.... It didnt really need painting that much but just got annoyed by chips here and there so ended up with a respray. lol


I agree also, hearts in the right place but just annoying as the interior is mint / was. lol
