I just had this choice and went for the Edition 30, but I intend to tune it.

The R32 did very little for me apart from the noise, and it felt noticeably heavier than the Ed30 to me.

The main thing that lets the Ed30 down is its brakes, they are dire.  Easily sorted though.

Ed30 for me all the way.  Or possibly an S3.

Get an edition 30 if you want to mod it as they give more bang for you buck. Check out hurdy's project page to see how far ypu can go with a little old golf

Just a whiff of the baseball cap about them though.

No, i was thinking someone thats put a toe bar on the back of his GTi is more "Pikey" Buttwash then Baseball cap  :smug:

I like the R32 the most but 250hp is more than enough for me

For it'd be the Gti, but only because I love the noise of the R32 too much, my fuel bills would be astronomical

GTI or ED30 FTW

Don't get me wrong, I love the MKV R32, mainly for that sound of the V6, but it isn't worth the extra unless you specifically want to go for a Storm Developments Supercharger and 430bhp+ (approx £6k fitted). The it is definitely the one to go for

£13k for a MKV R and £6k for the kit and you are laughing........if you can afford the running expenses of fuel, tax etc.

I wish something like that was available at that money when I had my r32's

I tried an R32 and to be honest, it would probably be my choice because the grip from 4WD is awesome and the noise is superb.

I chose the GTI because of the 5ish mpg advantage and the £200 saving on the road tax.

The road tests say the GTI is the better drive due to extra agility, but in real terms, I don't think there's much in it.

GTI every day - R32's are too slow and cost a fortune to make em go fast and they are too fat.

I'd go for an ED30 and map the life out of it

But you did not.
