the best thing you can do for cheap, is to open the air box, pull out the trumpet thing and buy a decent cotton air filter, ie k&n. then go for a decent exhaust system. to be honest you won't get any huge power gains (if any) but you may get it back to its standard figures!! it'll be worth doing though so don't think i'm trying to be negative but often people put on an exhaust and claim 5-10 bhp gains when in reality its nothing like it, maybe just a better response?

mixed opinions on this forum, we've had a few heated debates but the general concensus is on an 8v you get no difference between a decent panel filter and an induction kit. i've got an 8 valve and have tried green and k&n induction kits and took them both off after a day and went back to airbox and panel filter.
the theory behind this is that you want to suck in as much cold air as possible as its denser so has more oxygen for the same volume of hot air. the idea of an induction kit is to suck in more air than the typically restrictive airbox but in practice they also suck in hot air from your engine.
