Airflow meter problem......Question.
« on: 25 March 2005, 17:59 »
Mk 2 gti digi.I think i mucked up my airflow switch.I stupidly took the electrical connector off and then undone the screws to the actual connection port.It sort of sprung out and i had a bit of  a problem doing them back up.

After doing this and also cleaning my isv my car wouldnt start.I thought it must be the isv but that appears to be working(its buzzes when ignition on).I then realised it could be the airflow meter so unbolted it from the filter and undone the connection hub again and realised a couple of the wires had popped out of the connection hub.I cant get the top cover off of it to get in there and plug them back in(it appears to be sealed).

My question is...Would this stop my motor from starting? It fires up and gets to about 1000rpm then just cuts out immediately.

Also is there any way i can get the top of the airflow meter off to try and plug wires back in?

sorry read this after posting in your other isv related thread. yes it will stop your engine starting so you'll either have to break the seal to get the top off, (i've never done it but i know what you mean about it being sealed. if you do get it off you'll have to re-seal it) or try to find one in a scrap yard unless you know someone with a replacement.

why did you unscrew that anyway?

to be honest mate i dont know,i was just being nosey thats all i can put it down to!Really stressed coz i wanted to take it out for a decent drive over Easter and theres me fooking it all up.I will probably try and break that seal and reconnect the terminals tomorrow however i dont hold much hope and have already looked into getting a replacement. There is a mark 2 dumped round the corner, its non gti and a 4 door g plate, will this matter?

If its non-gti then its carb and therefore won't have the bits that you need.

Hi.
Managed to break the top cover free off the airflow meter. Many contacts were bent and one was disconnected.Fiddled for a while and managed to get motor running, albeit like an absolute pig.Idle going crazy, ticking over terribly and looks as though its chucking unburnt fuel from the exhaust.Ordered an airflow meter from Golfnutz for £25 delivered.Hopefully this willl get her back tickety boo, leaving me with just the suspicion of a blown head gasket to get sorted!

Mad isnt it that a piddley little thing like an airflow meter can completely bugger your motor, still you live and learn.I wont be messing about with it anymore!
