GTI 16v Anniversary on PH/Autotrader
« on: 03 May 2011, 14:04 »
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2363980.htm

I'm new to the forum and new to Golfs so I don't have a good idea of what they're worth. I know some Mk3s are under 1k sometimes even £500 but this one, despite even higher miles than the 1991 Audi S2 I used to own , looks very nice indeed. I'm sure the anniversary editions aren't the most sought after examples of Golf GTIs but it is at least a limited edition of some description.... Is it really worth £1,300 though?

This one looks very well cared for and in good condition - with a bit of rust and the high miles the downside. Plus its a dark colour, 16v and a 5dr - what I'm after in a Golf GTI - and being the anniversary edition it's got those excellent BBS wheels, the white dials and the golf ball gear knob - I'll just have to put up the the loud seats and the red seat belts!

By the look of the advert description it's owned by an enthusiast - anyone on this forum? Or at least anyone on the forum know of this car and its history etc?

Thanks in advance

Well I've just got an 8v Anni, and I love it. If you buy that one sell me the seats.

The 16v versions were in limited supply in the UK, only 150 made it here. So it is one very rare car indeed. If they have been looked after they are worth it in my opinion due to their status. People that don't even like MK3s can appreciate an Anniversary.

16v engines are great engines as well.

Edit: Didn't realise the high mileage was that high. That is high for a MK3 as most I've seen average out at about 140(ish).

Yeah it is a horrendously high mileage. Didn't realise only 150 were sold in the UK.

There was a black 8v 3dr one on pistonheads, I emailed the seller but it was sold already  That one had 135k miles and was going for 1200 and was in equally good condition from the pics...

Not really enough of them on sale to compare prices, mileages etc  :undecided:

Also, what seats do you have?

I'm sure a swap between somerset and w/yorks will be simple enough

I have the Anni seats.  Just I want some better condition ones.

The 8v models, I believe 600 came to the UK, they are still rare considering.

Is the condition such that the brightness of the coloured bits have worn?

Unless anyone else says otherwise on this thread I reckon it's probably worth it, but maybe I could haggle a bit off the price on the basis that it has the mileage of a spaceship.

I'll have to wait until at least late May though as by then I'll have finished my exams and I can use the excuse 'I was bored' when my mum shouts at me for changing car AGAIN - it would be my 4th car (4th VAG too ) and all since sept 2009.

My seats have seen better days, not rubbish but not great either, especially my sorry looking driver's seat. I'd haggle anyway if you went to look at the high mileage one due to the fact it is now SORN. Should get that down to £1000-1100. Good luck with it if you do and let us know how you get on. :afro:

Oh yeah it's SORN, read that but forgot about it. How much is the 16v for tax?

Anni or not that is never worth £1300, the sills have started rusting plus 191k on the clock.

The main one being rust forming round the rear of the front wheel arches and deterioration of the sills. She has recently had two patches welded underneath

You're looking at over £200 for the year, I think it's something like £210 for 12 months.
