Mk2 was 83 from an A plate (I think) onwards.

Mk1
1974–1984
1974-2009 (South Africa)
1980-1993 (Cabriolet)

actually launched in 83...released in UK in 84 mine was registered on 24/4/84

The cabby's stayed a MK1 shape up until the production of the MK3 cabby's I think

Correct.  VW didn't make a MK2 cabby.  Only a MK1, Mk3, MK3.5.

"The Mk1 Cabriolet was built entirely at the factory of Karmann, from stamping to final assembly; Volkswagen supplied the engine, suspension, interior, etc. for Karmann to install".
