Bit missing from my mirror
« on: 02 May 2011, 19:41 »
I was away on my stag doo last week golfing in Spain - and had to drive to Glasgow to fly.
I left the car in the 'secure' car park - and parked it under a security light for added protection.  Bad move - as the birds that sit on top of the light used my car as target practice!!

Anyway - whilst driving up the road I noticed a bit of my mirror was missing.  Its the passenger side one and its like the clear plastic that covers the indicator bulb on the inside of the mirror.  A tiny little square thats about 3mm - and visible from the driver seat.

Has anyone got a schematic drawing of how the mirror goes together - and whether this is a piece on its own, or part of something else.
It was definitely there on the way down... so who knows whats happened?!  They were folded in for the whole week too

Surely snooker or cricket take that title?!

Thanks for the link... but it doesn't really show what I'm looking for.  I can see the bit in Section 2 on the second photo down - but there is no mention of how the plastic fits in / comes out, and whether its a small piece on its own or part of something else.

Ah well, I tried.
I'm sure Snoopy will be along later who will probably know where there's a link. Or maybe Keithuk.
I wonder if Keithuk likes Golf.....?

The part you are talking about is part of the clear plastic cover for the indicator, mine was broken when someone hit the projecting part and cracked it, pushing the whole thing back so that the small indicator part in the mirror was forced inside the casing.
Probably not explaining it very well, but I needed to replace the centre clear plastic portion. the dealer fitted it while I waited, total cost £32

Ahh... thanks.
I had a look at the mirror when I was cleaning the car today and it doesn't look like its been damaged in any way (no scuff marks etc).
So what you're saying is that I'll need to replace the whole clear plastic strip?  I'll have a closer look tomorrow when its daylight - maybe its just been pushed back.  £32 aint too bad though!

Pete I have a spare mirror that should have the piece you need, let me know if you want me to send it up with the VIM?

Cheers
