window regulator problem.SOLVED !
« on: 01 May 2011, 15:29 »
Can anyone point me in the right direction .I just replaced my drivers side electric window regulator but although i can hear the motor trying to work it won't wind the window down or up.I can close the passenger side window with the drivers side switch but can't open it.Do i have an electrical problem here?.The drivers side has a new switch, which i fitted so i know its not the switch.
Any help would be great.

Thanks
Rob

try the contacts on the switch so many times do they get dirty and stop working its unreal as for the motor moving but no window movement i would sugguest the gears are gone in the regulator.

Cheers Pauld. The switch is brand new so i don't suspect any dirt on the terminals. As for the regulator,i have tried 2 different motors and they both make the same sound. The regulator is 2nd hand but in good nick.Maybe i should check the wiring as i've read that sometimes the wires do tend to break between the fuse box and motor. What do you think.

Cheers
Rob

Window problem sorted.A quick search inside the rubber gaitor that runs from the car pillar to the door i noticed the brown earth wire had come loose from the block connector.Obviously one of the previous owners had had a problem with the wire splitting and connected it up with the block connector. Now passenger window can be operated from the switch and this weekend the new regulator and motor will be in the drivers side.Oh happy days
