Snapped fuel filter pipe connector
« on: 29 April 2011, 20:54 »
I attempted to replace my fuel filter today and managed to remove the pipe connector from the 'out side of the filter but struggled with the other one and subsequently snapped from the pipe     Easy job to replace the pipe as I have opened the inspection panel and removed the pipe, but can anyone tell me if the connectors are VW specific or can I get them from a motor factors?  Need to sort this out in the morning as I can't use the car until this has been fixed

What a mission!!  Bought a new pipe and then took about 2 hours to feed the bloody thing down past the tank.  I had to undo the tank straps and push down to give me enough room.  Anyway all done and working; just one piece of advice when changing the fuel filter, be very careful with the pipes because if they snap a 5 minute job becomes at least a couple of hours

cant you just sorta pull pipes off gently and clip onto new one? Were your pipes quite brittle then?

The filter end connector just snapped from the hose whillst I tried to remove it and the only solution was to replace the whole pipe that ran from the sender unit on the top of the tank, down the side of the tank to the filter; the actual pipe was fine.  I still couldnt get the connector off the old filter when it was out from under the car so it must of been knackered anyway.  When I had the coil pack recall the dealer said the filter was leaking so it might of been that dodgy connector.  Not an easy job to do.
