Help and tips for spraying centers.
« on: 28 April 2011, 11:43 »
Really want to Spray my schmidt's but I don't want to take them apart. Do you think masking the wheels and spraying the centers will be ok?

I bought between coats sandpaper. masking tape, paint and lacquer. Didn't buy primer as I'm going to sand the paint on the wheels to get a semi rough surface, then spray onto that. Is that ok? or do I need primer?

I've used rattle cans a lot but I just want some advise before I spray my Schmidt's

refurbing them without splitting them will definately be "ok" but dont expect prefection.

the paint won't stick very well without primer though

Cool. But why won't it stick? Paint on paint is just the same as primer on paint, no? I'm not sanding them to metal.

Assuming that there is no damage to the centers, you do not need to prime the original paint. mask wheel, and "key" with grey Scotchbrite very thoroughly, then degrease, and paint as normal,
Primer is only required when there is damage of some sort to cover...

I know this is the problem. They are only sprayed from schmidt though, they didn't powdercoat them.

I've gone for ford graphite grey.
