engine mount

any one ever managed to change the cam side engine mount, got the old rubber out but cannot get the new one in. is there a tool?. anone got any ideas. cant use the car at all now  :cry:

anyone, please i seriously need to get it fixed, ass i need to take it for an mot, then to tax it. otherwise i cant keep it as its parked on the road

Hmmmm, usually you change the whole mount with the metal bit as well. The rubber is (or was) bonded to the metal surround which in turn is bolted to the block. I've changed one before and as I say, just changed the whole unit. Have you bought a replacement? What does that look like?

its a rubber bit in a metal ring that needs pressing into the bit that boltsonto the engine, hopefully tomorrow the man that said it could be done has done it  :smiley:

Hmmm, interesting. There should be a bush in the middle that your engine mount bolt runs through. Is that there or do you press it in afterwards? I've never done it that way, as I say, I changed the whole assembly.......probably a lot more expensive my way, but a lot easier I would imagine, especially doing it 'in-situ'.

had vw told me i could get the whole assembly i would of got that.
the whole mount comes off and the rubber bit is pressed out/in (the rubber bit is in a metal ciricle). hopefully its sorted failing that i will try to get the whole assembly

Having said that, you'll probably find they are obsolete now and you can only get the rubber inserts :rolleyes: It was quite a while ago I last did one. Good luck.

got it back and fitted it, also done the water pump (original job) and the cam belt/tensioner-lucky i did this as the belt was loose and the tensioner was gettting wobbly (the old plastic type now got the metal one) i also think the cam timing was out by one tooth as it seems to rev more freely, will find out in a minute when i go and cane her (cam belt has always worried me since i got the car as it has comprehensive service history but nothing mentions a cam belt change), i also got my idle down to circa 850 rpm.
now its just down to the mot station to pass her and i'll be well happy.
may even get new oil, plugs etc too, god i'm good to geeta sometimes  :smiley:
