Toyo's are soft but you can't have good grip without a nice compound.

I have Vredesteins Ultrac's all round they have been excellent
I can also say that uniroyal rainsport 2's are good too.

depends on your budget and how much you like to hammer the corners in wet and dry

Whats the standard Brand tyres for a Gti, 225 40 18? Just hit a pothole and rubber ducked a avon zz3 with almost full tread. Can'e decide to just replace the tyre with another avon or replace the two with stock or something else. Never really had avon, seem ok, but just looking at the options..  ??

I would have got Vredesteins Ultrac Sessantas if my local tyre place had sold them, lots of fans of them on this site.  I just went for Continentel Sport contact 3's as thats what came on the car.  They are very good all round tyres and only cost me £107 a corner fitted!

I had them on my 1 series and converted it to normal tyres

They're too hard and spoil ride. Insurance may not like as going away from std spec.

In your case i can see the benefit - you need to have tyre pressure monitor fitted?

Yeah, thats crap by the way. Doesnt matter if you have tyres fitted that arent factory spec. Most GTI users dont use the Dunlop or Bridgestone sh!te that came out the factory.

They are rubbish in terms of ride and grip but considering your circumstances, they may well be worth it.
