Golf 25 years (what's it off?)

Right, approximately 5 years ago, I bought this gear knob and gaitor off eBay with the idea of adapting it to fit my mk3 golf. I never got round to round to it, and it has safely been stored away until now. I know this is not from an Anni, as it is not a golf ball and it is only marked as 5 gears, but what is it from? It has got what appears to be a part number, but it is extremely faded! :undecided: I just want to know if it's a piece of junk or if it is in fact quite rare (as I have never seen another like it). Any light on the history of this gear knob would be greatly appreciated! :smiley:






The label, from what I can make out, reads:
VW Germany
ETU / KW 17/00
1J0 711 ~~~ AR LBC

The '~' is the part that I can't make out! :sad:

25 years for the golf would be the mk4 Golf Anni, however like you mentioned they all came in 5 speed i beleive, even the diesel models.

Maybe? :undecided: As I said, it could be a little gem, but I just don't know!? :undecided: It does look like it is manufactured to a high standard, with the leather. It also has the blue stitching, which didn't they do that for the R32 gaitor??

its not a 25th anni gear knob, as i own a 25th Anni, they come with a 6 speed golf ball gear knob as pictured, :)

i think it may just be a normal mk4 GTI which had this gear knob, around when the 25th Anniversary came out, just as a little extra for the normal based GTI's.
