Who on earth would rather pay more for a litre of paraffin than a litre of unleaded just to avoid some tax?
You would if you think petrol is dearer than paraffin?

True its not as convient.

No news yet as I did not get a chance to do anything last night. I will however give full update here of the steps I have taken and the results as soon as I receive an old pump that’s been sent to me to get the tank drained.

Thank you.

Well I certainly do. And back in the days when you actually did have to add to the diesel to stop it freezing, petrol would have been by far the cheapest.

So do you have a cheap supplier of paraffin? Could be good for my old mans greenhouse heater.

Here is what I finally did;

1.)   20 letters of diesel from the station.
2.)   2 X 4 Meters pipes. Homebased £8
3.)   1 X Drill Powered water pond pump from eBay - £5
4.)   Disconnected the two pipes from the Fuel filter. On close to the side is the Feed to the filter and the other its return of unused fuel to the tank. There are 4 in total connected to the fuel filter.
5.)   I then connected the two pipes that I got from Homebased  and then sucked and give it my best blow to get the Fuel out of the engine. Be careful that it doesn’t go in to your mouth.
6.)   I then tied the thin cloth on the end of the feed pipe to act as a filter and drop the pipe in to the fuel container that I got from the local pump.
7.)   I then sucked from the return pipe until the diesel got in to the filter.
8.)   Dropped the return pipe in to the same container as the feed.
9.)   I then started the Car and hey presto it started first time!
10.)   Left it running for 10 min.
11.)   Switched OFF and connected the Drill pump to the feed pipe from the Car Tank and drained all fuel in to a container.
12.)    Connected the pipes back to the Fuel filter and pored 30 Litters of diesel in to the tank.
13.)   Started the car again first time.
14.)    Disposed the mix fuel that I got out of the tank in to the manhole at the side of the road.
15.)   Drove to the nearest garage and filed the car to top.
16.)   I noticed NO difference what’s so ever with the car.

Don’t believe anyone who tells you that you need to take it to the main dealers and get all components changed. You don’t! Don’t ever tell the main dealer what has happened as they will try to void the warranty! Don’t feel in with the wrong fuel! Why did my car not start? Well it’s because it has a sensor and if it does not detect right fuel it will not start simple. This is put in place to prevent expensive damage to the engine. If it was a 2000 car then things would have been different. Love the GOLF!

Basically, you have been a careless clever boy. Happy driving.
Love the Golf too.

PS: It's litres! No wonder you misfueled!

I'd assumed that was a joke about putting it down the manhole, FFS

Yes that was a joke I needed to add some spice to the post!  It’s in my garage and tomorrow I’m taking it to the garage close to me to ask them to dispose it. Oh thanks am1w  for the litres correction.
Thanks to everyone on this group for all your help!

If you ever put petrol in to diesel car call me and don’t take it to the main dealer!
