Steve30,

I know it’s a disaster will not do it again for sure! Its only when the car would not start and the battery was OK I thought let me just check my receipt and it was there in clear that I filled it with £30 worth of PETROL which equates to 22 Litters.  I have used about 18 Litters of the mixture. I’m guessing now that the glow heaters just can’t get the mixture going or perhaps the Diesel pump has ceased up due to not been lubricated since petrol actually cleans greasy Diesel ! What I do need it’s the best way to drain the fuel tank instructions, I don’t want to do it using the existing diesel pump and just turning the ignition as that will make more fuel go through it and damage the pump if it is not already dead! If I had an old pump from another car that would be ideal but I’m not that fortunate.

Thanks.

I know taxi drivers and HGV drivers used to put a 1/4 of a tank of petrol into their diesel engine to stop it freezing in winter.
No you put paraffin in the diesel to stop it freezing plus it does have any tax.

I wouldn't have run on it for 200 miles as the diesel is the lubricant for the injection pump internals and injectors. I just hope you don't have any problems in years to come, though the warranty on the fuel injection pump is 5 years.

Maybe you do Keith but taxi drivers and HGV drivers used to put "petrol" in their vehicles to stop it freezing.

I think you will be alright mate, the fact it ran for 200 miles i think you have been fortunate there has   been enough diesel in the system. But, like you say, it lubricates the pump etc so how far down the line do you go in replacing and cleaning your fuel system? I think you are doing the right thing though, drain the system, refill the full tank with diesel and see how it goes. Keep us posted.

The ignorant ones do only because they want to pay tax.

I feel for you, my dad put a full tank of petrol in an older diesel Ford Galaxy at 3am in the morning, it wasn't until he started to drive did the car not go over 50mph, it was towed and then drained, IIRC it didn't need any 'major' parts replacing. Going back a few years now though, as said, the tolerances are a lot different now for modern diesels.

Nothing to do with paying taxes I reckon. Far more convenient driving into a garage and getting it from a pump than hauling it from a shop.

Who on earth would rather pay more for a litre of paraffin than a litre of unleaded just to avoid some tax?
