Oil Cooler confussion
« on: 25 April 2011, 21:07 »
Hi Guys,

OK I have a DX K jet Engine in my T25 campervan. It doesn't have MFA etc.

Due to not really trusting the dash temp gauge etc I wanted to be sure about engine temps and so have bought some Audi Coupe VDO Gauges from ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250808749170&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

My confusions is the oil cooler/filter housing that is on my engine. It does not seem to be the one that is referenced to on the forums mainly.

Sorry it is hard to see:

Think it is this one:

It has 2 large bolts it seems which I think attaches to an oil cooler (not installed). It has one large spade connection that is not used and what I think is another connection on the top.

Can anyone tell me which is which, and if I can use them with the Audi VDO's. I am being sent the senders with the gauges also but wondered if I needed to swap them over. Also as i am not running a MFA what is the easiest root for me?

Thanks

you can use audi vdos with either type of filter housing it makes no odds. all you need to do is locate some oil tappings and fit them in. just dont remove the oil pressure switch(es) that are needed for your dash oil pressure warning system.

the large white sender is the hight pressure switch, and the small one is mfa oil temp. since both are unused there are 2 spare oil tappings for you to use

Hi Rub,

Had a little play with my VDO gauges on this today. Can I use the installed MFA sender on the top with the white thing on it? I tested the gauge with this and it rose to 65 degrees after a gentle 5 min warm up, or will this give wrong readings? If I can use it how does anything connect to it? My MFA sender has 801/16/2 wrote onto it.

The gauges came with the senders they were installed on the Audi with. The temp gauge has a weird screw connection?

Do I need to replace the MFA one installed? And if so what connection do I need for this Audi sender?

Lastly am i right in thinking I simply replace the larger connection (white) on my oil filter housing with this pressure sender the gauges came with? Will it simply screw in in place?

On a side note the pressure sender says 0.5 bar on one spanner edge and 0.3 +0.15 bar on another? Does this do to filter house or head? I haven't come across when reading about installing these. I couldn't find the pressure on the gauge itself, although am told these are ones it used before.

Should this be fitted to oil cooler or side of the head?
Thanks guys

Really? I just am a bit confused by the 0.5 Bar on one face and the 0.3 +0.15 on another. Does yours have the same ratings?

Side of head or filter housing for pressure gauge that has 0.5 bar on one face and 0.3 + 0.15 on another?

Thanks
