Vandalised - Getting stuff off glass
« on: 22 April 2011, 23:54 »
So about a month ago, I came out to my car in the morning to find someone had smeared a lard-like substance all over my passenger side window.. As it restricted my view and I was in a rush to get to work, I took a tissue and wiped it off the best I could.

Thinking that it would be fine with a bit of degreaser to get it straight off, I just left it until I finally washed my car (this week).

Well, the stuff feels kind of like it's etched onto the window! I just can't get it off.. I've tried scrubbing it for ages, tried straight fairy liquid and even tar remover.. but nothing will remove it.

What are my options? I obviously don't want to start polishing my windows if it's going to leave them looking hazy..
Pictures to follow.

Brake cleaner, or a plastic scraper such as de-icer, last resort maybe a sharp razor blade.

+1 for a stanley blade, had a couple of chips repaired on my van with that epoxy stuff and to level it off the bloke went mad with a normal stanley blade, i said won't that scratch the screen? He said no and he was right!

stanley blade WILL scratch the glass. Wait till the sunlight hits the glass. It will look terrible!

nail varnish remover. obviously avoid the paintwork!

I think i'd go with APC and some elbow grease with a microfibre cloth, can never be too cautious

How about some clay - its hard to see how tough the stuff is but from what you say, i wonder if an abrasive clay would drag it off?

this http://www.toolshopdirect.co.uk/item.php/site/froogle/sn/AK52504

combined with some APC

go VERY easy on it though... you shouldn't have to use bags of elbow grease with the right stuff
