After fitting another new oil pump (initially fitted the wrong one!) and a new distributor (after the oil pump wouldn't spin and sheared the dizzy shaft!) I still have poor oil pressure, as the engine sounds like a bag of nails, and the oil warning light flashes continuously.
I now realise that in my haste to fit the oil pump I didn't prime it. I dunked it in oil and span the shaft a few times but didnt fill it with oil. However due to the buggered dizzy it was never started just turned over a few times when I thought my luck may be in.
I fitted the new dizzy today and it started first time but I turned it off as soon as the oil light didn't go off. I have since done the research I should have done before and poured oil down the oil filter housing where the 1.8 bar pressure sensor is.
But the oil light still flashes. My concern now is that I've fubard another pump.
I'm clutching at straws but could it be an air lock in the pump, or how much oil should the pump hold? I put about 200ml of engine oil down the sensor hole. I read about packing it with vaseline so that the oil doesnt run out....could it just be that it took so long to dribble the oil down the hole, it had ran out the pick up by the time I went to start it?!
Please dont say i have to take the sump off again!!
