Where are all the vacuum hoses? ('88 mk2 8v)
« on: 21 March 2005, 17:04 »
Having just watched my MFA read out at 64.2MPG for the 1st 10 minutes home (before car warmed up properly) I think that I might have a slight issue with vacuum pressure.

Where do I need to start looking for vacuum tubing? I know that the old central locking was pump operated, will this affect anything if simply disconnected from the doors? If so where do I need to look to cap it off properly? what other tubing is common to go on the mk2 8v?

Any advice appreciated

Ian

B&Q do a lovely range of bong (oops I mean plastic) pipping in many different diameters.

Mine reads MPG figures of about 16, do I have the same problem?

I'm not even sure if there is a problem but I've come to be sceptical about changes, however slight, with the running and instrument readouts of my Golf.  Been having a few issues lately with the revs bouncing to the point of dropping off and stalling alongside this readout which leads me to believe that it's vacuum related.

AFAIK it's NEVER had a service, VW or otherwise, in the 17 years of it's existance and has had a v.hard life.  The only upside to this is that I got the car given

I definately have to spend a little money and a lot of time and care on her this weekend before going away for my Birthday. Last thing I want is to be stuck in the middle of nowhere with no car and no mobile phone reception.
