The Perfect Finish?
« on: 13 April 2011, 13:31 »
Hi everyone, i have not long bought my golf and have spent a huge amount of man hours trying to get it to look its best. I have polished it with Autoglyms super resin polish and yesterday i went over her with Autoglyms Extra Gloss Protection. Although she is shining I can now see a few light scratch marks that are over the car!  Can anybody advise what would be best to buy to try and eliminate these scratches? What have you guys used? Good results? Cheers.

or pay a detailler to correct it, then just keep it nice

probably not much in it price wise by the time you've bought all the gear (from waxamomo naturally) and learnt how to do it

True, detailing can get very addictive and become expensive very quickly

Yep they are pretty much just swirl marks, and are faint at that, im just fussy. I have got the time to do the work myself, i was just wandering what product i could use to try and get rid of them, bearing in mind i have already coated her in polish, maybe a polish to match the colour of my paint??

Hi Chris

The SRP you're using is mostly filler just masking the swirls. It is slightly abrasive but not much.

You may want to get your hands on a good quality polish that is just an abrasive (3M, Sonus, Menzerna). For best results I would use a machine polisher as dom069 suggested. This will remove more of your clear coat than the SRP, physically removing the swirls.

Alternatively you can use a higher quality glaze such as Poor Boys black hole or white diamond (depends on paint colour). A glaze will just fill the swirls.

Or, you can do both! Polish to get some of the swirling out and then glaze.

Of course finish over the top with a good quality wax to add a nice deep gloss and protect your paint.

Hope that helps

Andy

Hi Andy.
Ok my paint code is LR5V - Fjord Blue
Money at the moment wont stretch to buying a machine polisher, so it is down to elbow grease.
From what you have said above i want to polish, glaze and then wax my motor.
Can you single out any particular brand item that would be best to use with my paint colour, for a polish, glaze and wax.
My paint is metallic.
Thanks in advance.
Chris
