only just bought my mk4 gti 2.0 and engine/exhaust warning lamp is on already.

Hi hope someone has a few ideas or suggestions.
as the subject says iv got the engine/exhaust warning light on after only driving around for 2 days.
the exhaust seems in good nick to the naked eye and sounds normal.
the engine dos not have any obvious leaks or funny noises either, i may have put slightly too much oil in but not excessive as it was coming up the dipstick.
but i would imagine that the oil pressure lamp would come on for that not engine management.

its been suggested that it may just be due for a service but im not sure.

again any help would be great

Could be a Lambda issue but you need to get it scanned for fault codes as a 1st step.

cheers, im trying to get it hooked up but its difficult without paying a fortune just to see whats up.

Had my baby checked out and you were right the lambda sensor had completely stopped,so was drinking petrol like it was pop!!

unfortunatley the garage cracked some water bottle or something with a spanner so its had to stay in overnight to wait for a part.

less than 24hrs after having a new o2 sensor put in and the warning light is back on!!

if its for the same reason, is there something deeper down thats causing the sensors to go??

thanks for the link rich, iv ordered one of them orange readers and still waiting for it to come,
but what im really after is if anyone knows why a brand new o2 sensor would only last for 24hrs? only covering about 50 mile??
is there a PROBLEM WITH THE ECU??
