16v....lets talk torque
« on: 21 March 2005, 10:52 »
after killing my old motor at TSR (my fauilt, lack of oil? ?) i bought a std 1.8 passat lump off paulh(cgti) and taken the carbs off and im back on k-jet.

so here is the story...
1.8 16v k-jet (flowed head and inlet cam) -150bhp/120lb

1.8 16v on carbs (flowed head and inlet cam) - 168bhp/145lb?

std 1.8 16v on carbs - 140bhp/135lb

now im running,

std 1.8 16v on k-jet - 145bhp/135lb

but the car isnt reving as well, my peak power was @ 5700 and then 'sharply' dropped off.
Tommy seems to thing its down to zorst size as im running a 1 3/4 " system (for that std look)
I may look around for a cheap second hand system and see if that sorts it.
also i have a massive flat spot from 2.5-3.5K, tommy just couldnt get rid of that.

all in all im happy, esp with that torque.
wot are the rest of my fellow 1.8 16v's putting out???

How does a 16v lump mated to an 8v gearbox drive? Anyone got experience of both? That 16v torque curve looks like it must ne wicked matched to lower geared 8v box.
