What exhaust?
« on: 21 March 2005, 09:37 »
My exhaust is starting to go, so it will need replacing soon

I have kept my car totally standard till now, but I'm not sure what to do about the exhaust.

Should I get a aftermaket exhaust (stainless ?), is so what sort? I definitely do not want a loud exhaust or big bore. I haven't got a load to spend :embarassed:

Or should I get a standard replacement to keep the car fully standard. If so where is the cheapest place to get a standard set up?

if you want to keep your car standard then keep it standard. otherwise Jetex & Sebring are both very quiet stainless steel systems

where is the exhaust actually blowing though? the system is in 3 parts. u can get the bits of ebay also if your willing to fit them yourself

Hi mate , just on the off chance you wanna stay standard ive got to almost new back boxes in my garage, one for an 8v and one for a 16v (with stainless back pipes on it) gimme a tenner for either if you can collect em, im in derbyshire. Sorry but i keep trippin over em!!!

Other than that i have to say whatever you do dont get those upswept DTM things, i think they really spoil the look of the golf. its always got to be twin circular exits for me

From what ive heard the standard exhaust breathes pretty good as standard. So getting a performance stainless system will not add much more power. But it will last a lifetime and look nice. Its up to taste really. I prefer a little rumble when flooring it and a nice oval tip poking out the back.

It's blowing in between the 1st and 2nd silencer. Having had someone at Mansfield plugg the hole with some gungey stuff, it is atleast quiet again, but having looked at the system it won't be for long. All 3 boxes appear to be ready for a change.

Thanks for the offer Elnigel,  but if I'm gonna get a standard replacement it'll have to be all black tail pipes.
Wasn't sure if the standard pipes were any good and have seen a jetex system on Ebay I was thinking of bidding on :undecided:

You're right about the DTM. Looks bloody awful in my opinion. Each to their own.

Do you need a system for an 8v or 16v?

I have the backbox, the silencer b4 bakbox & the 1 b4 that for sale if ur interested (for a 16v)

The backbox is not gen VW, but the other 2 boxes are.

I've got a 8v mk2 and it's got a black tailpipe exhaust which I think suits the car

Don't know if you have done this mate, but steer clear of kwick- sh!t etc if you can.

My top tip though is to avoid the generic rubber ring type mounts, and get some of the correct design ones from GSF, which will stop your pipe knocking about all over the place, and keep it where VW intended!

... it's turned into a fashion show for poofters.
