Many years ago, I had one of the first-generation GTi's - the 1600 model. I ran it for many years, with few problems. Eventually, I sold it when I got a job with a company car (Peugeot 309 GTi, as it happens).
When that job ended I set up in business for myself, and ran a Citroen BX GTi 4x4 - a fairly obscure but interesting car.
When that was on its last legs, I bought a Subaru Legacy Turbo Estate, which I've had for 15 years - it's now in need of a hehad gasket, which will cost more than it's worth, so that's off to the scrapper or for sale on eBay.
So, my latest toy is a Golf V6 4Motion- 1991, on a 51 plate. As far as I can tell, it's stock except for Audi 18" alloys and low-profile tyres. It's had two owners from new and seems to have been cherished.
I'm enjoying being back in the VW world! While I was looking for the "new" car, I rented a Golf TDi- things have really moved on! I'll swear that little 1.6 vanilla diesel is damn near as quick as my old GTi - *and* does about 65mpg.
