Rough cost of having a bumper sprayed?
« on: 10 April 2011, 18:27 »
Like a muppet I've scuffed the bumper of my gf's Lupo putting mk2 engine parts in the boot

The car is Reflex silver (think it's metallic). How much on average should I be looking at to have it fixed? I'm assuming the whole bumper will need to be resprayed.

If you have the patience do it yourself using rattle cans.  Took me a whole day to do the front bumper on the Passat and no one at shows realised it wasn't done proffessionally...

No I think she's going to be pissed enough already without me fixing it with rattle cans

Cheers though.

Depends how bad/deep the scuff is and if it needs filling. If so and you could do the prep work yourself, you would save a few quid I think. Most places charge roughly £100 per panel, and considering its just the bumper, probs a bit less.

It's quite deep, down to the plastic primer underneath. £100 is reasonable, was hoping it wouldn't be more than that. I'm just not too clued up on paint, particularly modern paint/metallics etc

Cheers

If it's just a scratch why don't you just get a mobile Smart repair? Surely cheaper and quicker than getting the entire bumper resprayed?

There are shed loads of company's scattered around the country these days that take on minor damages like this daily.

Can you get a pic of the damage up?/? It'll help people give a better idea.

Popped over the body shop today. £75 to have it sorted. Reckoned he could could blend it in without having to respray the bumper.

Yeah I'll get a pic

if I was you mate I'd invest in some sandpaper and flat that out yourself, do as much of the prep work as you can which would save money.

I don't know if it's just me but the words 'blend in' always sit uneasily with me, but that may just be because i'm an amateur....
