new intercooler pipe keeps blowing off

hi everyone im a bit stuck i need help i have a lovely red mk 4 gt 150 golf which i love, last week the inercooler pipe came off due to worn lugs,i replaced pipe and drove the car planted my foot and black smoke came out of exhaust and loss of power and pipe came off again can anyone tell me what they think the problem could be .

i assume you replaced it with a new pipe?

Did you replace the clip holding the pipe on??  Often VW supply you with the wrong clip as there are different sizes

Otherwise the connector on the intercooler itself might be worn but I've not heard of that happening too often  :undecided:

the pipe itself was replaced thats it do you think id need to replace other clips ??

Yeah the clip itself will be worn so you need to replace that too.  Worth replacing them all whilst you're at it as you can then check the condition of the lugs on the other pipes and replace accordingly  :smiley:

The connecting pieces on the intercooler itself may be worn.  When you fit the pipe and secure the clip it should be very snug with virtually no movement.  If it moves about a couple of cm's then you know its worn

Its normally the lugs on the pipes that wear though  :undecided:
