Weird problem with passenger window?????
« on: 08 April 2011, 13:00 »
Hi guys

Got a weird one for you. The passenger window on my car seems to be acting up. It will roll all the way down no problem, but then when you roll it all the way up; it gets to the top then rolls down to the middle. It does this ever time. Also whilst it is rolling down to the middle no matter how much you press the button to make it go up, it won’t respond. You have to wait till it comes to a stop, then press the button and it will go to the top and stay there. I have tried holding the button up when it gets to the top, but the doesn't work ether. It gets to the top then starts going back down to the middle, even whilst I am holding the button up. The problem also happens when using the full closure thing via the key fob.

Has anyone else had this problem? Just thinking if it is an easy fix via VCDS (clearing any faults ect.) or could the electric motor be faulty? If it is the electric motor that needs replacing, any idea on cost?

Thanks in advance.

Mrk V, GTI, 3dr, DSG, heated seats, winter pack, cruise control, rear parking sensors and now thanks to GizzyWizzy and SteveP in the MK6 section a RCD 510. Awesome!

It sounds like the system is faulty that detects obstructions when the window goes up. Normally this should only happen when the window is obstructed before it is fully up, but if something has gotten slightly out of synch it would think that there is an obstruction when in fact the window is simply at the shut position.

If it is this then a VW tech should be able to reset the system for you.

Try spraying some silicone spray down the window runners when the window is down. It's as hurdy says it's sencing to much resistance but it's more likely to be the runners are just creating to much friction as the window goes up!

sounds like cable are starting to sieze

if same as mk4 they are prone to fail
if same as Audi the blocks that hold the window are starting to fail

You could try a basic setting, press the window button down all the way then relese the button then instantly hold down for about 10 seconds then do the same again going up and it should be bsaic set.
