where to buy vr6 timing chains?
« on: 07 April 2011, 20:45 »
I want to change them as they make a noise. Should you hear them at all?
I have a 1995 OBD1 and looking for a kit. looked on google but only found US sites.
Does anyone know a good UK site to buy from?

Try VW for a start as they might be cheaper than you think, you also need the tensioners.

I will add and don't take this the wrong way but are you aware of how much work is involved in replacing them.

No not at this hour lol. Yeah I want fall kit not just the chains.
Do I know? dude I ain't happy about this! But would rather pay for them to be change than pay for a rebuild.

Should you hear the chains at all though? It's fine at idle, sounds sweet. I only ever hear them when on light throttle. can't hear them with load on the engine, hard throttle, off throttle. Just cruising.

Sounds like they have stretched, may be ok in the short term but they will need replacing soon.

So how much does this normally cost, £500? I don't think I want to do this myself. I will tackle anything but never done chains before.

£500 to £1000, engine really needs to come out, also you would best to fit a new clutch whilst it is all apart.
