Info on 7 Speed DSG

My sister has to replace her 2006 Mk5 Golf TDI DSG.  I was reading that VW introduced a 7 speed version of the DSG in 2008 and I was wondering if anyone knew how common they are and if they are much better, as it appears they were an option at the time(?)

The seven speed DSG gearbox on the MKV TDi's was for the lower output engines only. It is a dry-clutch DSG box rather than the 6-speed wet-clutch arrangement on the higher output diesels.

7 speed box is 250nm rated.

6 speed box is 350nm rated.

thanks hurdy, from what I read it was available on the 1.9 and was more fuel effecient?

Yes, you are right. They uprated some of the bearings to give a freer running 'box to aid mpg.

 Obviously the gearing of the seven gears was designed with mpg in mind, rather than bhp too.
