Water temp light..
« on: 04 April 2011, 21:24 »
Hi guys/girls, after having a long drive in the mk2 today, around an hour my water light flashed twice then went of, temp needle was in the middle, and my oil temp was 88, after my journey i had the bonnet up with engine running, needle was in the middle and fan was going, didnt smell hot, no leaking any where, no steam, plenty of coolant in the header tank, she's going in for a full service and cam belt water pump etc on wednesday, no mayo under the oil cap and oil looks clean still. Just one of those odd things or a sender playing up?

Mine did the same a while back. I haven't got a level sensor in header, so mine must be connected to temp guauge sensor, which was halfway? I figured maybe the wire on sensor wobbled and went open circuit (as if its been unplugged briefly).try cleaning the connector/ connection up

I'm thinking it could be something to do with electrics as it flashed again then seconds afterwards the rev counter went dead, as did the speedo, then a few minutes later they were working again!?

After abit of research I've found out that flashing means low level, so I've bought a second hand header tank to try tomorrow, but after my google search it looks like a lot of people just tend to leave it! So I will try my new header tank and clean the connections up and see how that goes!

Speedos are cable on a mk2 (mech not elec) so that couldn't have gone out.. Yeah its prob the level sensor if u have 1, if not, its temp sensor or connection on it...mine hasn't done it since so I'm not bothered for mine, I know it was just a false alarm
