GTI Towbar with pics
« on: 04 April 2011, 14:10 »
Finally got round to having the Towbar from my old Mk5 moved to the Mk6, ready for the summer!

The Whitter towbar itself was reused but required new electrics and fitting.

Uses a replacement OEM panel from VW and looks really good, the panel pops on unlike the old one which had thumbscrews.

Towbar once removed fits neatly with the spare tyre.

Did you order the tool holder in the spare wheel to carry the ball end as they list the one that as a seperate part number?

The spare wheel was as it was from new, it already had a suitable cut out. This was the same on my Mk5 GTI as well. It's a bit tight but does fit and keeps it all neat and tidy.

That's v similar to the one I was looking at to put the bike rack on. With the OEM panel it does look good when not in use - best of both worlds

How much was fitting inc. electrics please?

Whereabouts is the fitter based? Need to get a move on and get this done for mine

£470, fitted which included new electrics, OEM replacement bumper section and infill cover/retaining clips.

But that price included reusing the towbar plus mount itself I believe and labour for removing last year from the mk5 before I traded it in.

Original price on the old GTI was around £600... but better than than the eye watering £1000 quoted by my dealer and the reason why I had them remove it once I saw they shared the same parts.

I'm on the Isle of Wight.

If you go on the witter website they quote a fitted price for everything bar the OEM bumper panel you need ordered from a vw dealer.

Really neat! Would you mind posting some pics from side and back showing the width of the car, just to get a sense of what it looks like?

Thanks
